Minimalism is a way of living with less material things and believing that it will simplify the life of the person and those around. Minimalism is also said to be helpful to reduce mental clutter as a person removes all that is unnecessary, physical or nonphysical clutter from life.
What is minimalism?
Minimalism is described as ‘a minimum quantity of anything’ or ‘close to negligible’. So, we can understand here that accumulating more and more stuff is opposite to what minimalism is. In a practical sense, minimalism means getting rid of stuff that you don’t use and having a surrounding which is simple and spacious. Basically, a balance of two things:
- Choosing to not collect physical clutter
- Choosing to throw out mental clutter
It is about living lightly.
How minimalism can help to live a stress-free life?
A person would be in the present moment, he will choose carefully what he needs for his minimalistic lifestyle. This way he is being mindful of his surroundings. This brings a wonderful opportunity for the person to think clearly and take the right decision. If a person is a minimalist, he or she follows the intentional way of living that brings clarity to the mind and helps improve every sphere of life.
A person pays attention to the wants and buys and keeps only that he/she needs. This saves a lot of money and keeps a person out of debt. Once the excess things are gone, there is more space for the things that are important and bring mental peace. With fewer things to manage, a person has lots of free time to indulge in doing the things that he/she loves which otherwise wouldn’t have been possible. This brings peace and happiness in life.
Minimalism is a path to walk on and not a onetime thing to do. Every day, you will see stuff that your mind will say you really need it. But that’s not true. In fact, it’s the advertising of those things that makes you want them. On the path of minimalism, it is about self-control and having awareness of what you need and what you don’t. It is about doing things slowly and enjoying the journey.
As you reduce the clutter around you, the clutter that is inside you also fades away. In this fast and chaotic lifestyle, a person needs to relax and simplify the life and that will be possible by removing the mess that surrounds you by choosing a minimalistic way of life.
So, what you think? Yay or Nay?
