There is a dancer in all of us even those who don’t groove. Albeit some become living legends of it, some are average, and others are bathroom cum alcoholic dancers. But truly I have never come across absolutely anyone who cannot dance. Personally, I am not a trained dancer (although I do daydream about it) but irrespective of it, whenever I dance its instant exuberance and joy, it’s what euphoria feels like without ecstasy. Therefore, the workout Zumba has gained worldwide popularity, and many find it easier to join the dance party rather than slugging it out in the gym.
To make things more interesting and refreshing there is now a concept of Aqua Zumba out there, a step ahead. The term itself is self-explanatory, anyone willing to give it thought can decipher that it means performing Zumba (Latin dance moves) in the water body (mostly these sessions are held in swimming pools with the water level up to your chest). But just the thought of it especially now with temperatures rising up pours some thrilling excitement for Zumba lovers out there.
These sessions are generally 60 minutes long, where you work out your body engaging your core, swaying to good music and slaying the fat, all the while enjoying yourself and not even sweating. Owing to the fact that water has the capacity of making you feel weightless (by displacing the body weight), performing these exercises (your dance routine) seem much easier. But don’t let that fool you in thinking it’s any less of a workout than other more prescribed methods. One session of aqua Zumba is said to burn about 600-700 calories for an average person. The secret lies in the fact that even though the water helps in cooling and making it easier, but truly you perform your dance against the water and not as a partner. The resistance from the water makes it an intense cardio type workout. An added benefit of aqua Zumba is it goes easy on your joints by reducing the impact on them from all your jumping around. So it’s great for elderly people and those who have had any knee or hip replacement as well. Like swimming, aqua Zumba works out your entire body targeting all major muscles and help you tone and shape up. The only gear required for this workout is your swim-wear and some crazy enough people invest in shoes to be worn in water. Rest head out and join the group or as they say, join the party.
Zumba workouts never really feel like a workout and are totally worth it. From my personal experience, they don’t just improve your flexibility and body shape, but your overall confidence and happiness quotient. It’s hard to feel down and depressed after having hollered fun tunes and dancing your way to fitness. It may take two to tango but only takes you to sway to Zumba. So, what are you waiting for, let’s hit it!
