Quick question, how many of you follow the celebrities on various social media fronts, or when cruising through the many videos stop on unknown accounts flaunting sexy bods followed by the ooh’s and aah’s and secret wishes to look like them at least arbitrarily. Guilty, me too. Now we all know that getting fitter or sculpting our bodies to the god/goddess stature isn’t impossible, yes difficult, it does require tons of effort to put in. We all know that there is no way around exercising for staying fit, even without focusing on the superficial standards of body image.
So yes, we are discussing exercises today. There are many ways to define or categorize exercises and regimes. But broadly we can divide them in 2 ways – Aerobic and Anaerobic. To understand anaerobic you need to understand aerobic. It’s an obvious fact that when we exercise we use energy and burns the calories in the process, we train our muscles. The same holds for these sets as well, the key difference between them is when we perform aerobic exercises we use oxygen as fuel maintaining a steady heart rate and hence can sustain the level of activities for a longer period. Examples would include walking, jogging, biking, swimming, dancing, etc, etc. Whereas during anaerobic exercises the body uses the fat stored in muscles as fuel to perform the high-intensity workout. As the heart and lungs can’t keep up with the amount of oxygen required you workout without oxygen. Since these are performed without oxygen they are performed for a maximum of 2 minutes. Like HIIT, sprinting, weight lifting.
To make it simpler, when Usain Bolt won the Olympics and other medals in the sprint he was performing anaerobic, but when Milind Soman goes on his marathons he is performing aerobics.
Our focus today is on Anaerobic so let me list a few benefits of including them in your workouts:
· Since they use the stored energy from muscles they burn more calories in a lesser amount of time and are more efficient for weight loss.
· They also build up lean muscles mass which means your muscles are at work even at rest.
· They are used for increasing strength, stamina and speed, by pushing your endurance limit
· The lean muscle mass is what will help you get the toned body you aspire for
· It boosts your metabolism as well. get
With so many benefits (as the above play into good health, better immunity) these are not to be given a miss. The thing is that you will need both (Aerobic and Anaerobic) to maximize the benefits you draw from your workouts.
Lastly if reading a blog or scrolling through the posts could make us lose the weight or get fitter we would all be movie stars. Alas, it doesn’t happen, so you may take your inspiration but make sure you get up and perform.
